Meet at the entrance to the Wilderness Conservation Area on Upper School Street, just North of Route 128 in Manchester. Rain dates will be on Sundays at the same time, on the days immediately following the scheduled workdays. Please wear appropriate work clothes, boots and bring water. We also ask that you bring your own hand trimming and cutting tools: branch lopper, pruning shears and/or a bow saw. Wilderness Conservation Area Great Loop Hike on the woodland trails. This 5 - 6 mile hike covers hilly terrain and the pace will be steady; for hardy hikers only. Leaders: Mike McDonagh and Jeff Cochand. Bring a snack, water and insect repellant. Henry David Thoreau was a climate change scientist! For the past 15 years, Professor Richard Primack (Boston U.) and his team have been using Thoreau’s records from the 1850s and other data sources to document the earlier flowering and leafing out times of plants and the more variable response of migratory birds.
